LEAGUE CUP FINAL - SUNDAY 11TH MAY 2008

Sunday 11th May was our League Cup final against Knebworth Wildcats. It was a repeat of last years final, which unfortunately we lost 3-2 after extra time. This was never going to be a pretty game of football now for sometime. It was a boiling hot day at Royston, so the boys were always going to tire easily. The game began and Letchworth started with a very high tempo, which resulted in a corner within seconds of the start. From the corner Ryan C curled the ball straight into the net, Letchworth Eagles claiming the first gaol after 47 seconds.
Knebworth must have thought this wasn’t to be their day!

Most of the game was played in Midfield with neither goalkeeper having to make a save. Until with 5 minutes left on the clock and the game came alive. Knebworth equalised and with 3 minutes left scored the winner, again from a direct corner. Letchworth pressed for an equaliser, but to no avail. I was proud of my players, they gave their all in very hot conditions. Hopefully we can come back again next year and set the record straight.

COUNTY CUP FINAL

On Sunday 20th April we played Sun Postal at the County ground in the under 12’s final. We had watched them previously and knew that the game was going to be tough. They were big, strong boys.
The game started with a high tempo, with Letchworth creating many chances and probably should have been a couple of goals up at half time, but as football goes Sun Postal against the run of play scored first on 27 minutes, but to our boys credit within a minute had equalised through Liam B.

The second half Sun Postal came more into the game, with both teams having chances. The game went into extra time. Both teams were tired running around on such a large pitch and most people would have thought the game would go to penalties, but in the second half in extra time Sun Postal got a free kick on the edge of our area and their captain sailed his shot over Harry J’s head into the net, leaving him no chance. Our boys never gave up, they rallied round to try and produce the goal that they needed, but run out of steam! The boys worked their socks off. I felt we were the better team on the day, but it wasn’t to be. I am sure next season the boys hunger to get back to the final will show and fingers crossed we can do well again.
